OKADA PROTEST IN BENUE STATE:
This morning the capital of Benue State Makurdi was over taken by members of the motorcycle association popularly called (Okada). The protest that started about 9: 30 am this morning was said to be on the current trend in Makurdi were every week an Okada rider is killed by unknown robbers. Okada members took to streets to register their grievances over what they call "we are human too" saying government must wed into the killings of their members and as well bring their perpetrators to book. speaking to one of the Okada men who said, they have been hearing of many deaths now within Makurdi that since this Month about three members were killed he mentioned one in Welfare Quarters junction another one at off Iokyaa Ako street High Level, Makurdi. He continued that just recently one of them was last Night killed at the Kwararafa Quarters along government house Makurdi and all their motorcycles taken away by unknown robbers. Major roads like Rail Way Crossing High Level from the roundabout to Police H/Qs was crowded as protesting members took over the road. At the High Level roundabout one of the Okada was hit with a gun boot on the chest by a police officer while in motion and was later picked by police in one of their vehicle the protest which lasted for about 5 hours was calmed with the presence of armed police 0fficers and patrol vans. Though at the time of this report no death was recorded but police have since been arresting Okada who are found misbehaving on the road.
