ALIA SWEARS IN HIGH COURT JUDGES, CHARGES THEM TO ENSURE FAIR AND TIMELY DISPENSATION OF JUSTICE

The Executive Governor of Benue State, Rev Fr Dr Hyacinth Iormem Alia has sworn in three High Court Judges and one Judge of the Customary Court of Appeal.

The swearing in of the judges was done Wednesday, July 05, 2023 at the New Banquet Hall of Government House, Makurdi.

Those sworn in for the High Court include Lilian Ngusuur Tsumba ESQ, Patrick Eka Oche ESQ, and Peter Mvendaga Ukande ESQ, while Barr. Fidelis Vihiluntswen Iortyer was sworn as judge of the Customary Court of Appeal.

Both of them took oath of office and pledged  full allegiance to the Federal Republic of Nigeria and promised to follow the part of justice, honesty and concord, among all the people of Nigeria in all they do.

Governor Hyacinth Alia expressed desire that the new appointments will enhance the effectiveness of the High Court and the Customary court of Appeal by boosting their capacities in carrying out their roles of adjudication and dispensation of justice.

He charged the newly sworn judges and their colleagues to ensure firm, fair and timely dispensation of justice in all cases before them, even as he encouraged them to see their elevations as a privilege to serve the State and Nation and not for personal gains. 

Fr. Alia promised that his administration will accord the judiciary total respect and would not meddle in the affairs of the judiciary.

The Governor used the opportunity to appeal to workers from Ministries, Departments, and Agencies, who were not paid on June 25, 2023 due to scanning of records to be patient, their salaries will soon be paid.

Responding on behalf of appointees, Hon. Justice Lilian Ngusuur Tsumba appreciated the Governor and the Benue State Judiciary for finding them worthy of elevation.

She acknowledged the grace of God on them in addition to what they have put together in the course of their service, and.promised that they cannot take their elevation for granted.

The event was attended by the Deputy Governor of Benue State, Barr. Sam Ode, the Speaker of the Benue State House of Assembly, represented by the Majority Leader, Hon. Saater Tiseer, Secretary to the State Government, Prof. Joseph Alakali, and Chief of Staff, Rt. Hon. Paul Biam.

Others were the State Chairman of APC, Comrade Austin Agada, Head of Service, Moses Agbogbo Ode, the Bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Katsina -Ala, Most Rev'd Isaac Dugu, represented by Rev Fr Isaka and the Principal Private Secretary to the Governor, Dr. Emmanuel Chenge, amongst many serving and retired judges and lawyers.
