BENUE STATE: GOV. ALIA AT LIBERTY TO VISIT ANYONE, PDP TO NOTE

BY Isaac Uzaan

We have sensed an overwhelming feeling of fear and anxiety in Benue PDP. The party is truly suffering from a psychological disorder characterized by delusions of persecution and reprehension. They are busy running while no one is chasing after them.

The recent article by the PDP Publicity Secretary, Bemgba Iortyom has no substance to engage the thought of someone with a progressive mindset

It is an epic sham that the PDP attempted to link it to ill-reasons, the presence of Governor Hyacinth Alia at the Thanksgiving Mass in memory of Late Prince Paeke Shepna'an Dongban, the son of the President of the Court of Appeal.

We understand, however, that they are only giving to the public what they have. An opposition party with a disability to initiate constructive criticisms would only present prosaic articles and unverifiable assertions.

There is no cause to even reply them, because unlike his predecessor, the priest Governor has no traces of perverting the course of justice. His presence at the Thanksgiving Mass in honour of the Late son of the President of Court of Appeal has nothing to attract negative insinuations. As a governor, Alia is only promoting social interaction and personal relationship.

On the contrary, however, it is evident from the examples below that former Governor Ortom, the principal of Bemgba Iortyom can bend laws and distort facts to achieve his objectives.

He led anti party protest against his party, the PDP. This is an offense which is punishable under the Constitution of the party. The former Governor, however, sought court injunction restraining the PDP from suspending him.

He characteristically sought court injunction to prevent justice from being served on him by the Asserts Recovery Committee formed by Governor Hyacinth Alia.

Governor Alia cannot prevent justice from being served on him. He might have a case in court, yet he retains the right to visit, communicate and interact with others.

If I should educate the prospective jurist, questioning the movement of Governor Alia violets Section 41, sub-section 1 of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria as amended which provides that: "Every citizen of Nigeria is entitled to move freely throughout Nigeria."

Again, the right to personal liberty is one of the most central human rights as it is connected to the essential rudiments of an individual physical freedom. That Bemgba Iortyom does not know this seriously calls to question the type of Law he is studying.

A lawyer (though in the making) should not be questioning the integrity of the judiciary to which he is a prospective member. But here is Bemgba Iortyom raising questions against the integrity of the President of the Court of Appeal in Nigeria and other judges.

Bemgba Iortyom should have been using his office as Publicity Secretary of PDP to apologize to Benue people after his party brought unimaginable hardship on the state through corruption, maladministration and mindless looting and stop provoking them with silly writings that hold no substance.

Governor Hyacinth Alia is very mindful of the pain and sufferings of Benue people and his administration is committed to ensuring that there is a change. However, the PDP should not be implicating itself by advising the Governor to be visiting places ravaged by killings and destructions under their very own administration.
