FLOOD ALERT: TOR TIV V ASSURES TECHNICAL COMMITTEE ON 2023 FLOOD OF ROYAL SUPPORT

Paramount Ruler of Tiv nation and Tor Tiv the 5th, His Royal Majesty, Orchivirigh, Professor James Iorzua Ayatse has assured the Technical Committee on 2023 Flood of his Royal support towards saving lives and property of his people in the event of the impending flood in the State.

His Royal Majesty stated this today Saturday, July 22 2023, in his palace at Gboko when he received a delegation of the Technical Committee on 2023 flood, earlier constituted by Benue State Governor, Revd. Fr. Dr. Hyacinth Iormem Alia.

The Begha U Tiv, in his welcome speech expressed his support to His Excellency Rev. Fr. Dr. Hyacinth Iormem Alia administration through BSEMA in providing both short term and long term solutions to this years impending flood that is likely to be experienced in the State and commended the Governorfor for setting up the Technical Committee to control the flood menace.

HRM reinstated his call on the present administration of His Excellency, president Bola Almed Tinubu to dredge River Benue to provide lasting solution to flooding in the State.

Earlier, the Acting Executive Secretary, Benue State Emergency Management Agency (BSEMA), Sir. James Aondoakaa Iorpuu, thanked HRM, Prof. James Iorzua Ayatse for honouring their visit to his palace.

He informed the Tiv Paramount ruler about the impending flood in the State which Nigeria Meteorological Agency (NiMET) and National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), weather forecasts has warned that the impending flood of 2023 is going be massive in the country which Benue State falls within the State that will be Highly affected.

The Acting BSEMA boss explained that about 22 Local Government Areas in the State are to be affected by the impending flood of 2023.

He explained that it was on this concern that the Governor, of Benue State, Rev. Fr. Dr. Hyacinth Iormem Alia constituted a Technical Committee and directed them to work aggressively to reduce the huge challenges of 2023 flood that awaits the State.

He decried that the level of human factors triggering flooding in the State including indiscriminate dumping of wastes into gutters, building structures on water ways among others, adding that the Technical Committee has since commenced its tasks to mitigate the high intensity of the impending flood.

The delegation which was led by the Acting BSEMA boss drawn from line Ministries, Departments, Agencies, Civil Society Organisations (CSOs) partners, International and Domestics partners as well as Security outfits.
