The Honorable Speaker of the Benue State House of Assembly, Honorable Hyacinth Aondona Dajoh today 4th July 2023 led other speakers of the six State Houses of Assembly which made up the region to pay a courtesy visit on the Secretary to the government of the federation, SGF, His Excellency, Distinguished Senator Dr. George Akume mni in his office in Abuja, Nigeria.
The Benue State Speaker who was leader of the delegation said the visit to the SGF was to thank him for the role he has played within North Central Region to make sure the All Progressives Congress, APC emerge victorious in the just concluded general elections.
He maintained that the visit was also to congratulate the SGF and thank the President, Bola Ahmed Tinubu for making a wise choice by making senator George Akume his Secretary.
Hon Dajoh in his speech stressed that in SGF State of Benue, All Progressives Congress, APC won the Governorship seat, two out of the three Senatorial seats, ten out of the eleven House of Representatives seats and twenty one out of the thirty two House of assembly seats within the state, saying it was due to the political sagacity of the leader, Sen. Dr. George Akume that such a feat was achieved.
Responding, the Secretary to the Government of the Federation and leader of North Central Politics, Distinguished Senator Dr. George Akume thanked the speakers for the visit saying, "I remain indebted to you for this visit and show of solidarity."
Dr. George Akume further stressed the need for various Speakers to work in harmony with their State Governors adding that, it is only then that the general masses who voted them will feel the impact of Democracy.
"It is good for the legislature to support the Executive. I was a Governor and I was also a legislator and I know why it is important for the two arms of Government to be on the same page."
Baring his mind on the issue of farmers/herders' crisis, the Secretary to the government of the federation said ranching remains the best solution to the problem.
Senator Dr Akume also took out time to enumerate some of the policies of the President, His Excellency, Bola Ahmed Tinubu which includes: Subsidy removal and the recent appointments of service chiefs and said they have received wide commendation from people within and outside the country.
The SGF finally called on the Speakers of North Central States to remain united and collaborate to attract development to the Region.
The speakers are, Hon. Moses Thomas Sule, plateau state, Hon. Ibrahim Balarabe Abdullahi, Nasarawa state, Hon. Abdumalik Sarkin-Daji, Niger State and Hon. Aliu Umar Yusuf, Kogi state.
