INFRASTRUCTURE PROJECTS, MORE THAN ANYTHING, REFLECT GOOD GOVERNANCE - FR. HWANDE

The Thanksgiving Mass to commemorate the 40th Birthday Anniversary of Benue State Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Hon. Austin Agada held yesterday at St. Joseph Nyiman Catholic Parish, Makurdi.

At the Mass, Revd. Fr Theophilus Terkula Hwande, VC Superior General, Via Christi of the Makurdi Catholic Diocese, gave a sermon in which he exhorted those in government to sit up and tender good governance to the people.

Revd. Fr. Hwande admonished against government celebrating and making a big deal out of payment of salaries as an achievement, since wages are the entitlement of workers and their payment not a favour being done anyone.

The Superior General, Via Christi challenged the government to take up the task of providing critical infrastructure and social amenities in roads construction, water, electricity, educational and health care delivery facilities as a mark of seriousness.

The sermon was apt and should serve to guide the government of Governor Hyacinth Alia to move away from flaunting payment of salaries to just a little section of workers in the state as its achievement so far after a month in office.

Governor Alia should understand that only the execution of infrastructural and social amenities projects will grant him the pass to stand where his predecessors, George Akume, Gabriel Suswam and Samuel Ortom stand in the developmental history of the state.

Bemgba Iortyom observes from Makurdi.
