BENUE ASSEMBLY TO PRIORITIZE ISSUES AFFECTING WOMEN- DAJOH

The Speaker of the Benue State House of Assembly, Aondona Dajoh has said the Benue state house of Assembly under his leadership will prioritize and give stern attention to issues affecting women in Benue state.

The speaker said this at the end of one day workshop on "Convening Of state Houses of Assembly on a State Action Plan on Women, Peace and Security" in Port Harcourt, Rivers State organized by the National Institute for Legislative and Democratic Studies, The Norwegian Embassy and UN Women to draw attention on women economic independence and social security, Protection from Violence, SGBV for IDPs, finance, and resources for NAP, ZAP, SAP, and LAP among other things. 

The speaker said Benue state has already domesticated the Violence Against All Person Prohibition law and called on relevant stakeholders as well as women to take advantage of it in correcting the ills that come with GBV in the society.

The Speaker said the workshop has further equipped him with relevant ideas and technics that will help him actualize the plans he has for women of Benue state.

"Rising from this workshop, I will liaise with my State Governor, His Excellency, Fr. Hyacinth Alia, and relevant stakeholders, groups, and NGOs and engage them through workshops and town hall meetings that will educate and place our women in an inform position to speak, act and prevent Gender Base violence in our society".

The speaker appreciated the organizers of the Workshop and called on them to always support victims of Gender Base violence by making sure they stand beside them to get the Justice the victim deserves.

The speaker also emphasizes the need for more women's participation in politics as a panacea for a healthy and peaceful society.

The Deputy Whip of the Benue state House of Assembly, Hon. Peter Ipusu, Clerk of the House, Barr. Bernard Nule and the chairman House Committee on Information, Hon. Elias Audu said the workshop is educative and informative and has provided them with relevant opportunities to tap in and enhance their service to mankind.
