BSEMA BOSS VISITS BAKA IDP CAMP, ASSURES THEM OF BETTER WELFARE

The Ag. Executive Secretary, Benue State Emergency Management Agency (BSEMA), Sir. James Anodoakaa Iorpuu, has assured Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs), living in Baka camp, along 72 Barracks Road, Makurdi of a better welfare and the Government’s commitment to resettling them. 

Sir. James Iorpuu, stated this yesterday Tuesday, 1st August 2023, during his continuation of visit at Baka IDP camp to know the challenges confronting them. 

Baka camp is among the unofficial IDPs camps that were recently declared official by Governor, Rev. Fr. Dr. Hyacinth Iormem Alia when he flagged off distribution of food.

Addressing the IDPs, the BSEMA boss appreciated the Persons of Concern for their endurance and called on them to remain calm, as the Government was working towards returning them to their ancestral homes even as he assured them 
of State Government's commitment to their welfare until their return back home. 

He informed them of Governor Alia's priority to return them back to their communities, noting that elaborate measures has been put in place to facilitate the process.

Sir. James Iorpuu described the condition of the IDPs at Baka camp as unfortunate and called on them to remain calm, saying that BSEMA would send relief items to them to cushion the impact of hardship faced by the IDPs.

Chairman of Baka IDPs thanked the ES for visiting them, that they were neglected over time by the previous administration.

He explained they have been displaced and settled to the camp since 2018 and said that about 1212 population of displaced persons living in the camp.

Some of the IDPs members who spoke lamented over the untold hardship they have been through over the years and call on the Government to return them to their ancestral homes, stressing that their immediate challenge is food, water and lack of tents to sleep.
