BIRS, VIO, FRSC COMMENCES JOINT OPERATIONS TO CHECK VEHICLE PAPERS

....Several offenders convicted by mobile court

A joint operation to check vehicle particulars and driver's licence in Benue State by the Benue State Internal Revenue Service, (BIRS), Vehicle Inspection Officers, V.I.O and the Federal Road Safety Corps, has commenced in Makurdi, the state capital.

The exercise which is aimed at ensuring that all vehicles, motorcycles and tricycles plying the roads in the state are duly registered and updated as well as checking the licences of motorists as required by law, is been conducted alongside a mobile court to prosecute offenders.

At the commencement of the exercise yesterday, along Makurdi/Gboko Road, several offenders were charged and convicted with options of fine by the mobile court Magistrate, Kelvin Mbanongun, for offences including, driving without valid papers and driver's licence among other, while other vehicles were impounded.

It will be recalled that the acting Chairman of BIRS, Mr. Emmanuel Agema, ACTI, during a tripartite meeting with the V.I.O and FRSC said apart from the revenue generated from the registration and renewal of vehicle particulars and driver's licence, the exercise is also a critical security measure on the management of the vehicle administration database in the country.

The exercise is expected to be carried out across the state in the days ahead.
