IGEDE AGBA: ALIA CALLS ON BENUE PEOPLE TO PROMOTE PEACE

The Executive Governor of Benue State, Rev Fr Dr Hyacinth Iormem Alia has called on Benue people to work together in harmony and promote peace in their communities.

The Governor made the call Friday, September 08, 2023 while speaking at Igede Agba, a new yam festival at which the people of Igede thank God for bumper harvest before they officially begin to eat the new yam.

He said conflicts such as the recent one between Oju and Ibilla do not only cause distress and sufferings but also hinder progress and development.

The Governor who said the Benue State boundary committee will soon start work, appealed to Igede people to live in harmony and promote peace in order to build a better society for themselves and their families.

He saluted the sense of reasoning that brings the Igede people together annually to interact with one another and also harness ideas for the progress and development of their community.

Governor Alia said he was very conscious of his campaign promises and he would do everything possible to address the deplorable road network in Igede land.

He thanked the former First Lady of Nigeria, Dame Patience Jonathan for honouring Benue State with her presence at the occasion.

Earlier, the House of Representatives Member for Oju/Obi Federal Constituency, Hon. David Ogewu appreciated Governor Hyacinth Alia for attending the occasion, and promised to work in partnership with the Governor to deliver dividends of democracy to his people.

The event attracted the presence of the Former First Lady of Nigeria, Dame Patience Jonathan and Hon. (Arc.) Salman Idris, Member representing Kabba-Bunu/ Ijumu Federal Constituency in Kogi state as well as prominent Igede sons and daughters both at home and in the diaspora.
