ALIA ATTENDS THANKSGIVING MASS, TALKS AGAIN ON PLANS TO RESETTLE IDPS

The Executive Governor of Benue State, Rev Fr Dr Hyacinth Iormem Alia has again expressed the determined will of his administration to tame the tide of insecurity in Benue State and return Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) to their ancestral homes.

The Governor made this known Sunday, October 22, 2023 during a Thanksgiving Mass in honour of the Member, North-East Development Commission, Rt. Hon. Dr. Stephen Aondona Tsav at St. Francis Catholic Church, Daudu in Guma Local Government Area.

The Benue State Government, in collaboration with the Federal Government has already begun plans to resettle IDPs as seen in the ongoing visit to IDPs camps by delegates from state and Federal Governments.

While re-emphasizing his willingness to resettle displaced persons, the Governor thanked the president of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Sen. George Akume for supporting the resettlement plan of the Benue State government.

Governor Alia who expressed bitterness over attacks on Benue communities, also lamented the latest incident of armed robbery attack on banks in Otukpo where scores of lives were lost.

He acknowledged the pain that the Ihyarev people of Guma Local Government have gone through in the past eight years and promised to continue to provide assistance to help take them out of their present situation.

Governor Alia drew the attention of Ihyarev people to the honour his administration accorded them by making their children heads of major ministries in the state.

He promised to begin construction of bridges on the road linking Daudu and Ukpiam with a view to making the road motorable.

On delayed payment of primary school teachers, Governor Alia said there was ongoing verification exercise to determine the exact number of teachers in each local government area of the state, even as he appealed to teachers to accept the exercise for clarity and accuracy.

He thanked the Ihyarev APC Forum for honouring Dr. Stephen Aondona Tsav, whose appointment he described as another step in an exciting career and a promotion into a greater level of accomplishment and responsibility.

The event attracted the presence of top dignitaries, including the SGF represented by Elder Akange Audu, Hon. Dickson Tarkighir, Hon. Asema Achado, Professor Steve Ugba, some commissioners and House of Assembly members, some appointees of Benue State Government, State chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Austin Agada and other party Executives, and traditional rulers, amongst others.
