BSUTH MANAGEMENT CONSTITUTES INVESTIGATION COMMITTEE

By Asortar James Asortar

The management of Benue State University Teaching Hospital Makurdi, under the leadership of Dr. Terungwa Stephen Hwande has constituted an investigation committee headed by Prof. Michael Agbir, which has been charged with the responsibility of investigating and coming out with reasons surrounding the abandonment of some very expensive, vital and highly sophisticated medical equipment procured and abandoned by the immediate past administration.

Very prominent of these abandoned medical equipment are:
1.Magnetic Resonance Imaging(MRI) machine worth three to four hundred million naira (N300,000,000 - N400,000,000).

Magnetic resonance imaging, or MRI, is a noninvasive medical imaging test that produces detailed images of almost every internal structure in the human body, including the organs, bones, muscles and blood vessels. MRI scanners create images of the body using a large magnet and radio waves.

2.Dialysis machine: Dialysis machine is worth in millions of Naira and it is used in dialysis that filters a patient's blood to remove excess water and waste products when the kidneys are damaged, dysfunctional, or missing.

Great concern here has been that the above medical equipment were imported and commissioned by the past Governor of Benue State, Samuel Ortom making a lot of headlines.

An interface with the current management has it that the said machines have never worked since thier installation by the past administration.

The investigation committee as charged by the hospital management shall duly investigate the reasons why the past administration procured such crucial and highly sophisticated medical tools weighing hundreds of million naira that could have been very instrumental in saving lives but which unfortunately never worked nor test run since their installation and thereafter proffer solutions on the way forward.
