AGEMA HOSTS TRIPARTITE COMMITTEE OF BIRS,FRSC AND VIO.

The Acting Chairman, Benue State Internal Revenue Service (BIRS) Mr. Agema Emmanuel ACTI, played host to the tripartite committee meeting which consists of BIRS, Vehicle Inspection Officers (VIO) and the Federal Road Safety Commission.

In his address, Mr. Agema maintained that the committee which consists of the three sister agencies is imperative in the task of revenue generation. He said that the collaboration between Benue State Internal Service, Federal Road Safety Commission and Vehicle Inspection Officers remains necessary for effective operations and inproved revenue generation.

The Tax Boss stated his resolve to improve revenue generation and noted that there are a lot of untapped revenue in registration and renewal of vehicles, motorcycles and tricycle particulars which he intends to mine. 

Agema emphasized that, it is a constitutional obligation of all vehicle owners to register and renew vehicle particulars. He encouraged the agencies to enforce compliance as regards the renewal of vehicle papers.

He also noted that Associations and the general public will be contacted and informed through wide media awareness programmes to ensure compliance.  

Mr. Agema further informed the committee that BIRS is working closely with the judiciary to set up a revenue mobile court to be used in a joint revenue drive that will involve the tripartite agencies and some security agencies.

The State Chief V.I.O, Engr. Joseph Decryer has informed the meeting of the new procedure for obtaining roadworthiness certificates which require vehicle owner to make payments for testing and certificate of Roadworthiness then proceed to the actual testing of vehicles before certificates of roadworthiness are issued. He stated that the new procedure is in line with world best practices as it makes the process seemless and enhance compliance.

Also speaking, the sector commander of Federal Road Safety Commission, Corp Commander, S.O Ayodele mentioned that the Federal Government has announced that renewal of Proof of ownership Certificate has become annually. This is a measure to check and enhance security in the state.
