ALIA FLAGS OFF DISTRIBUTION OF RELIEF MATERIALS TO FLOOD VICTIMS

The Executive Governor of Benue State, Rev Fr Dr Hyacinth Iormem Alia has flagged off the Distribution Exercise of the Special National Economic and Livelihood Emergency Intervention for Persons affected by the 2022 Flood and the Most Vulnerable in Benue State.

Performing the exercise Tuesday, August 22, 2023 at Makurdi Local Government Secretariat, Makurdi, Governor Alia thanked the federal government for her efforts in ensuring that those who were affected by the 2022 flood are counted and taken care of.

Food and non-food items in large quantities are to be distributed to victims of flood in about twenty-one Local Government Areas, out of which nineteen were badly affected.

Governor Hyacinth Alia, who said the items were meant strictly for flood victims whose data were already taken, advised those who are not part of the exercise to stay off.

He warned the beneficiaries not to sell the items but make personal use of them inorder to achieve the intended or desired result.

The Governor also expressed gratitude to the Nation Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), who in their Great hand of charity has chosen to reach out to the needy.

In his remark, the Director of NEMA, represented by Azeez Afunku underscored the need for such intervention, and called on the Benue State Government to ensure fair and equitable distribution of the materials to those affected by the 2022 flood.

Also, in a welcome address, the Acting Executive Secretary, State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA), Sir James Iorpuu, represented by the Head of Administration of the Agency, Donald Komgbenda gave account of the items received and promised to be transparent and fair in the distribution.
