By Isaac Uzaan

The Executive Governor of Benue State, Rev Fr Dr Hyacinth Iormem Alia has called on Benue people to guard against untrue defamatory statements on individuals and organizations, saying actions have consequences.

Governor Alia made the call Saturday, September 02, 2023 at Government Secondary school Vandeikya during the funeral and burial of former representative of Tiev Constituency at the Benue State House of Assembly, Late John Chia.

He regretted that Benue State is facing waves of domestic misinformation and citizens should restrain from unsubstantiated inflammatory expressions as a deliberate attempt to ensure social stability.

The Governor, who announced the training of ten thousand Benue youth in ICT, called on civil servants in the state to get serious and always be present in their offices during working hours as anyone found exhibiting laxity will be questioned, just as he warned against illegal levies and extortion of marketers in the state.

He enjoined Benue citizens to be law abiding and rally round the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Sen. George Akume and support him with good ideas to succeed.

Governor Alia expressed sadness that John Chia who was very instrumental in the process that led to his emergence as Governor of Benue state cannot just live to assist him with ideas and be part of the success that his leadership will bring for the state.

He thanked members of the 6th Benue Assembly (which late John Chia was a proud member) for their show of love and commitment for the burial of Late John Chia.

The Governor equally appreciated traditional rulers for all that they have been doing in maintaining peace and orderliness in their communities.

He finally prayed for the repose of the soul of Late John Chia and advised the family to take solace in God.
